Tuvalu

This small nation is located in the South Pacific and is void of the skyscrapers and touristic venues that often take away from the peaceful atmosphere of island paradise. In fact the population is equated to about one-tenth the size of Washington D.C. Furthermore, Tuvalu only receives about 1,000 tourists a year. Since the nation has yet to explode with tourist activity, it is a great location for a relaxing, secluded adventure. The attraction to this tiny nation is the beautiful lagoons and islets.

The weather in Tuvalu remains relatively consistent year-round although the rainy season commences in November and lasts until March. The country enjoys a maritime climate with trade winds blowing in during the dry season.

Tuvalu travel

One of the best attractions to take in during a stay in Tuvalu is Funafala Islet. There are only a small number of inhabitants here. They are the remnant of when American soldiers relocated people to the islet during World War II. Today they experience a laid back way of life with distinctive Polynesian culture.

For more interesting signs of the World War II conflict, there is an old runway and even scraps of old planes on the island of Nanumea . Allied Air force pilots were stationed here during the war. Also, there is an old underground bunker in Tepuka.

A must-see for any traveler to Tuvalu is the Funafuti Marine Conservation Area. This is a large conservation area composed of island habitat, lagoons, coral reefs, and channels. The conservation effort has preserved several types of colorful fish, delicate coral, turtles, and several rare birds. Snorkeling and diving are available here. Both beginners and experts should take advantage of viewing this underwater world. All will gain a great respect for the conservation efforts and the beautiful natural habitat.
